Holy smokes, but that was a long Christmas vacation. Maybe because it wasn’t a vacation, but rather just two weeks off work. Two weeks of bitingly cold weather, and a houseful of ravenous men and barking dogs. I am sick to death of the following:
– Chocolate shortbread
– Pine needles
– Christmas music/décor/spirit
It was actually a rather lovely time off. I can say that now that the kids are back in school and the tree is down. We were spared by the ice storm, praise the Baby Jesus, and had the power – literally – to host Christmas dinner for 14. We had a couple of other big dinner parties, because relaxing is for schmucks. We also went out a fair amount, and by the end of the two week period I was sleeping in until 10. 10 A.M. Like a teenager. I, who normally would get up ay 4:30. So this morning came way too early, and I have jet lag without the jet.
Speaking of taking the tree down, it took the better part of yesterday, and it couldn’t happen soon enough. I would happily take ‘er down on Boxing Day, as I have a horror of dying things. Same with flowers. I love fresh flowers, but as soon as those suckers start to wilt and droop, I have to toss them out. So watching a 10 foot tree slowly dry up and die between Christmas and New year’s is torture for me – I only do it for the family. They like a dead Frasier fir to close out the year.
So now the tumbleweed is out by the curb, the boys are back to the grind, and tonight I will be asleep faster than a toddler after a temper tantrum. Happy New Year, bloggees. May your 2014 be full of life and power.
