You’ve done this, sent a simple email request to your boss asking for time off, but I bet your request didn’t go viral and turn you into an online celebrity.
Greg Heaslip, a security officer working for Arcadia Group who own a few fashion chains, wanted to take some time off work. He did what everyone does he sent an email to his boss requesting the time off. That’s where the story takes off. Greg’s boss accidentally forwarded his holiday request to 3,500 staff members.
That is when the #GiveGregTheHoliday hashtag was born.
The joke started off as an inside joke among Arcadia employees.
The joke soon spread across the internet. People even hung signs on their office building windows.
Airlines, brands, and vacation destinations jumped on board using the hashtag.
And then TrekAmerica really stepped it up and offered him a free trip to Las Vegas!
Arcadia later revealed his vacation request had been OK’d before all the fun. Have a great time Greg!
