The break up of The Beatles, the lawsuits, the desperation, the depression and then the rebirth and a new band came from the ashes called “Wings”. Even though the perception was that Paul was responsible for the Beatles splitting up but according to journalist Tom Doyle it was actually John who first wanted to leave the band.
Man on the Run: Paul McCartney in the 70’s by Tom Doyle follows Paul’s bitter split from the Fab Four, his struggles to launch a solo career and the saga of Wings, the post-Beatles band he formed that included his wife, Linda, on keyboards. The latest biography of the former Beatle reveals that guitarist Henry McCullough had suggested to McCartney that he replace Linda — who had little musical experience — with “a ‘proper’ piano player,” but he was rebuffed by Paul. However, McCartney admitted that he did have second thoughts about his wife’s participation in Wings, and briefly considered asking one-time Beatles sideman Billy Preston to join the group. The book drops Tuesday June 17th.
