Jay Leno is getting the last laugh … The former Tonight Show Host will receive the Kennedy Center’s 2014 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Leno, who’s 64, hosted the “The Tonight Show” for 22 years (minus 6 months) , so he deserves the prize for longevity, if nothing else.
“What an honor!” Leno said in a statement. “I’m a big fan of Mark Twain’s. In fact, ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ is one of my favourite books”. You see? “A Tale of Two Cities” was written by Charles Dickens. That Leno. As funny as a barrel of anthrax.
The Twain has been awarded 17 times to the likes of Carol Burnett, Ellen DeGeneres, Tina Fey, Steve Martin and Will Ferrell. Leno will collect his prizeOct. 19, with a national broadcast on PBS Nov. 23.
Speaking of not that funny, Joan Rivers has a new book out and it’s nasty. In “Diary of a Mad Diva”, the 81 year old comedienne goes to town on almost every female performer in Hollywood.
She calls Girls creator Lena Dunham the “first fat girl naked on television”. She refers to Tyra Banks as a narcissistic loser, says Jennifer Ansiton has been dumped by every man in Hollywood, and says things about Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus that can’t even be repeated. Joan Rivers used to be mildly amusing. Now she’s Mean old Lady Hickenlooper.
