The Face of Brazil’s National Sorrow. Rob Ford ‘Disruptive’ In Rehab: Sources Say. Britney Spears Without Auto-Tune: Painful.
THE FACE OF BRAZIL’S NATIONAL SORROW
Brazil’s World Cup nightmare already has a face. A cute, yet unbearably sad face. The child’s tears have gone mega-viral in the wake of Brazil’s destruction against Germany in the World Cup semi-finals. With Neymar out, the Germans tore apart Brazil’s porous defence, routing the hosts 7-1 in the World Cup semifinals, the largest margin of defeat at this stage in the history of the tournament. Germany will face the winner of today’s match between Argentina and the Netherlands at 4pm on CBC.
ROB FORD ‘DISRUPTIVE’ IN REHAB
So… Mayor Rob Ford’s time in rehab north of Toronto may not have gone as smoothly as he said. A report by Kevin Donovan in Wednesday’s Toronto Star claims Ford was disruptive, aggressive and even abusive during his stay at the GreeneStone residential addiction treatment centre in Muskoka. Donovan says he obtained accounts from three unnamed sources, including a patient and staffer, about Ford’s time at GreeneStone. In addition to reports, Donovan told CP24 that Ford was kicked out of his group therapy program over rumours of drug and alcohol use while in rehab. The Star article offered no proof that Ford abused any substances during his time in rehab and says it was unable to determine if indeed the allegations are true. Ford did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment. The mayor returned to work June 30 after taking a two-month leave of absence.
BRITNEY SPEARS WITHOUT AUTO-TUNE: PAINFUL
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard a Britney Spears track without Auto-Tune, but it doesn’t mean it makes this any easier to listen. An unedited vocal version of Britney’s track “Alien” — off of her most recent album ‘Britney Jean’ — was leaked July 2. As the video made its rounds on the net, track producer William Orbit posted a statement Monday, July 7, explaining that the track is a vocal warm-up session, not Spears’ final take. “I’d like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up,” Orbit wrote. “Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly. I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warm-ups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners.” “A generous singer will put something down the mic to help the engineer get their systems warmed up and at the right level, maybe whilst having a cup of herb tea and checking through lyrics before the session really kicks off. It’s not expected to be a ‘take.'” Listen to the track below, and decide for yourself whether this is a warm-up or the real deal.
$50,000 POTATO SALAD & THE INTERENT KEEPS GIVING
This better be the best damn tasting potato salad ever. We’re all fans of campaigns to help people and programs across the world, but this particular Kickstarter campaign is getting a ton of unexpected attention. Zack Brown of Ohio set a cute goal of $10 on July 3 to make potato salad, not knowing he would reach over $50K in only a few days, and growing. With 24 days to go and almost 5,000 donors, who knows how much potato salad Brown will end up having to make. Brown initially started the campaign because he simply wanted to make a potato salad, but just wasn’t sure what kind to make. The power of the Internet can be too much sometimes and his tiny request has been overwhelmed by the thousands and thousands of dollars in donations. Brown is also not sure if he should mail out salads to some people or rent out a party hall to make several recipes. Whatever he does with the money, we just hope it ends up in a good place (or mouth). “All these wonderful people are making my dream of spreading joy and humour in the world come true,” Brown told ABC News. “We’re going to throw a massive party in Columbus [Ohio] and the whole Internet is invited. We are going to do right by the Internet.”
PAMELA ANDERSON DIVORCES… AGAIN
Maureen Holloway – Pamela Anderson, on the other hand, is getting divorced. The actress is splitting from Rick Solomon, the man so nice she married him twice. First in 2007, then again last January, but it just won’t stick. Pam was previously married to Tommy Lee, whom she married on a beach in 1995, 4 days after meeting him, and also Kid Rock, whom she married in 2006 for a few months. Pam marries as often and as thoughtfully as she orders Chinese food (and then an hour later, she does it again).
THIS DAY IN ROCK HISTORY…
This day in 1999, a statement is issued by Jerry Hall’s lawyers saying that she has formally agreed to separate from husband Mick Jagger. The couple married in a ceremony of questionable validity in Bali, Indonesia on November 21, 1990.
