Maureen Holloway –
Comic Con gets underway in San Diego today… Once the domain of freaks and geeks, today you can describe it as a festival for big blockbusters – and everybody goes: The Justice League, the Avengers, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and of course their fans.
This year, the excitement centres around the possibility that Ben Affleck will show up to promote Batman vs. Superman.
Benedict Cumberbatch will surely show – he’s rumoured to be cast as Marvel’s newest hero Dr. Strange.
Daniel Radcliffe will be there to promote his horror mystery Horns. Peter Jackson will be on hand to chat up the next Hobbit movie.
There’s lots of buzz about Jupiter Ascending, directed by the Washowski siblings, starring Channing Tatum as a half-albino wolf-man, and Mila Kunis as a secret space queen.
Hey – it could happen. Tomorrow alone, there will be panels for Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead with many members of both casts in attendance. ***has spasm and passes out***
Meanwhile, in Collingwood, Ontario, The Elvi are assembling. Big excitement at the 20th annual Elvis Festival because this year, Priscilla Presley, the King’s widow, will be making an appearance.
Her first visit. How weird would it be to see hundreds – maybe thousands – of people impersonating your late husband? How weird must it have been to have been married to Elvis in the first place.? How weird would it be to have Michel Jackson, the Nicholas Cage, as a son-in-law – however briefly? If Priscilla Presley isn’t a weirdsmobile, she should drive one.
