Maureen Holloway –
A petition has been launched to get Weird Al Yankovic to perform at next year’s Super Bowl.
Weird has landed his first number one album in his 30 odd year career, with song parodies such as “Word Crimes” (a parody of “Blurred Lines”) and Foil (a parody of Lorde’s “Royals”) and “Tacky” for Pharrell Williams “Happy”.
Now, some 75,000 people think he should headline the Super Bowl 49 Halftime Show. The petition was started by Seattle bar patron Ed Ball, who was admittedly drunk at the time, but was nonetheless horrified at the thought that Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus might get the coveted slot. Ball has gone one step further, suggesting Weird Al could feature some of the stars whose songs he has satirized.
The petition calls upon President Barack Obama to being his influence to bear on the decision, which I’m sure he will do as soon as he deals with Ukraine… and Gaza… and Ebola.
