Maureen Holloway –
TIFF is upon us. If you woke up this morning feeling like you’ve been brushed with a little bit of stardust, it is because – for the next 11 days – the beautiful people will walk amongst us. Well maybe not amongst US, but amongst each other, behind a velvet rope manned by a large man named Bronco.
THE BIGGEST BUZZ seems to be surrounding Foxcatcher – this is the one with a virtually unrecognizable Steve Carrel as billionaire John DuPont, and Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo as boxing brothers Mark and Dave Schultz.
Robert Downey Jr. is coming to town to promote The Judge, in which he lays a lawyer defending his father, played by Robert Duvall. There’s the Theory of Everything, with Eddie Redmayne playing Stephen Hawking, and Rosewater, John Stewart’s directorial debut about a Canadian journalist taken prisoner in Iran. Bill F’ing Murray may or may not come to the festival to promote HIS latest, called “St Vincent”, and Reese Witherspoon will be all over the place with 2 movies at the festival, including “Wild”, in which she plays a former drug addict who treks the Pacific Northwest. How does Reese cook her heroin? Witherspoon. (This is why I am not welcome at the press conferences).
