The jury is out on whether U2’s joint venture with Apple has paid off for the supergroup. Some say the band has been left nursing bruised egos after less than half a per cent of music fans bothered to download their new album – Songs of Innocence – for free.
On the other hand, less than half a percent equals 200 thousand people, which is not bad at all, but it’s probably less than had been anticipated. The band will make its money off its concert tour. In the mean time, they are changing the title of the album to …SONGS OF BITTERNESS
Last minute changes are taking place on Saturday Night Live as it heads towards its Sept 27th premiere.
Cecily Strong is out as Weekend update anchor, although she will remain on the show. In her place, comic Michael Che, formerly of The Daily Show, will join current anchor Colin Jost. It will be the first time Weekend Update is hosted by two men, or a person of colour, not that I personally see colour, but some people do. Evil mastermind Lorne Michaels says there may be a few more tweaks in the weeks to come. No worries, especially not for you, Mike O’Brian.
Tis the season for crazy couples… Some of the most unlikeliest people are hooking up, the latest being the newly – or about to be – divorced Neil Young, and the lovely, slightly wacky, Daryl Hannah. They are both environmental activists, so that maybe brought them together. Here’s a poem inspired by their union:
Neil and Daryl sitting in a tree
First comes love, maybe marriage
Then comes a mournful dirge with an ragged super amplified guitar solo
