So it turns out the big U2 Apple album launch was NOT a fiasco … it was all intentional.
Bono says U2 wanted to annoy the record buying public. The singer admits he knew making their new record “Songs if Innocence” available for free download to half a billion ITunes users earlier this month would cause controversy.
Despite the fact that less than 1 percent actually downloaded it, and still others demanded that it be removed from their music library, Bono insists that the stunt was a success, telling the BBC, “Well, that’s kind of our job, isn’t it? To stir things up a bit? That’s why we wanted to be in a rock and roll band in the first place… That’s the whole punk rock thing”.
I’m not sure teaming up with the world’s biggest corporation and getting paid 100 million dollars is the whole punk rock thing.
