By now you’ve heard the iconic El Mocambo palm tree sign is up for sale on eBay. Owner Sam Grosso doesn’t have the money to take it down. He estimates it’ll cost about $4,000 to remove it. He says he put it up on eBay hoping it would stir up enough attention that the city would step in.
“I’m hoping that the city would buy it and do what they say they’re going to do with the Sam The Record Man sign,” he says, adding that he’d really love the neon palm tree to stay in Toronto. “Or, I could raise enough money and hang it on Queen Street.” Perhaps outside his club the Cadillac Lounge. “I’m a big fan of neon. That’s why I spearheaded it.”
Where would you like to see it go?
