New Musicians For 30th Anniversary Band-Aid Single
Thirty years after British musicians highlighted the plight of famine in Africa with the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” a new generation of singers is banding together for a cover version to help raise money to battle the Ebola crisis in West Africa.
Bob Geldof, who co-wrote the original song and put together Band Aid and Live Aid, announced the partial lineup of musicians who will take part in the updated version of the Christmas classic.
One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Foals, and Bastille are among the new artists taking part, along with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Bono from U2, who sang on the original 1984 version.
Geldof says he got a call from the United Nations about three weeks ago pleading with him to help help raise money to fight Ebola which has killed nearly 5000 people in Africa this year.
