Ghomeshi Arrested On Sexual Assault & Overcome Resistance – Choking Charges
Weeks after allegations of assault and harassment were brought to light regarding former CBC host Jian Ghomeshi, charges have now been laid.
According to a Toronto Police news release, Ghomeshi, 47, surrendered himself on Wednesday morning.
The disgraced 47-year-old has been charged with:
- one count of overcome resistance – choking
- four counts of sexual assault.
The accused made a court appearance, where the Crown’s request for bail at $100,000 was granted.
The judge has also ordered that Ghomeshi turnover his passport, live with his surety (mother), and have zero contact with any victims.
His lawyer, Marie Henein, told the crush of reporters outside the court Ghomeshi would be pleading not guilty to all charges.
10 people had come forward to media and police stating they were assaulted or harassed by Ghomeshi.
Police say their investigation into Jian Ghomeshi began on October 31, only days after he had been released from his position.
After launching a $55 million dollar lawsuit, the CBC is announced Tuesday that former Q radio host Jian Ghomeshi has dropped the case, and instead will be paying $18,000 to the broadcaster in legal fees.
Ghomeshi was fired by the CBC on Oct. 26, 2014
Jian Ghomeshi faces a charge of “overcome resistance – choking” which could get him life in prison. Do you think he deserves heavy jail time? Or has he suffered enough with the loss of his job and the public shame that he’s endured?
