Kitchener parking lot charges $84/24-hour period
Everybody likes to complain about the $25 parking bill for hanging out at a hospital for 2 hours, or a $40 hit for parking your car in downtown Toronto for a day at work.
But have you every had to pay $84 to park you ride for 24 hours?
That’s what a lot at 55 King St. West in Kitchener is charging!
The new rates went into effect this week at the lot, which is owned by Dream, a large property management company. The daily maximum had previously been $12. Monthly rates are still typical for the region, at $80 a month.
Paul McCormick, Kitchener’s manager of city-owned parking lots, was astounded when he heard the rate charged at 55 King. St. W. He said the city tries to strike a balance with its parking rates so that the parking enterprise breaks even, while still providing some parking and encouraging other forms of transportation such as transit or cycling.
