Changes Allow More Craft Brews Into Beer Stores
Big changes are coming to the Beer Store.
Effective immediately, it will discount fees for craft breweries allowing for more access to their products, including more seasonal brews.
The Beer Store is also opening ownership to all Ontario-based brewers allowing them to share in the group’s decision-making.
Brewers will still be allowed to independently set their own prices.
But the chair of Ontario Craft Brewers says today’s announcement comes as a surprise to members.
“We were not consulted on any of this and as such, we just do not have enough information to comment right now. It is as simple as that…We need more information, we have a lot of questions.”
-Cam Heaps, Chairman of Ontario Craft Brewers
Heaps says there is a government process already in place regarding beer distribution in Ontario and the OCB wishes to continue to work within that process.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath says she wants to wait for a government panel’s final report on how sales in the province should be modified.
