Parents on Twitter criticize York Region school board for not cancelling buses due to extreme cold
Twitter was buzzing yesterday as many parents directed harsh criticisms at the York Region District School Board for its decesion to not cancel buses Wednesday due to the extreme cold weather.
Twitter users hammered the social media feeds of the school board, pointing out it the extreme cold and how some students have to walk and stand to wait for a bus, declaring they should have been spared the trouble.
Some comments even came from frozen students themselves, with even one angered twitter user who shared his displeasure with foul language.
“We recognize it’s cold outside,” school board spokesperson Licinio Miguelo said.
The board said it unusual for buses to be cancelled due to cold weather unless Student Transportation Services finds the buses won’t start.
The board defines extreme weather as -20 C or below, blizzards, freezing rain, ice pellets, rain, hail, heavy or blowing snow, ice, thunderstorms, lightning and extreme wind chill, according to its extreme weather policy.
Students, and even some PARENTS, tweeted vile things to both the York Region & Peel School Board accounts, angry that school buses weren’t cancelled and schools closed during yesterday’s cold snap!
What message would you like to send to the students? Should schools and buses have been canceled?
