PARIS ATTACK SUSPECTS HELD UP IN BUILDING WITH HOSTAGE
Police in France have now cornered the two suspects wanted in this week’s massacre at a Paris newspaper. The men are in a building about 40km northeast of Paris and apparently have at least one hostage. Police have been in contact with the suspects who have told them they are will to be martyrs.
Another shooting and hostage taking is underway near Paris… this one at a Kosher grocery store. It happened in the past 15-minutes and police believe this is the same gunman who shot a police officer to death yesterday. Police have also linked that shooting of the officer to the two brothers wanted in the Charlie-Hebdo massacre. Right now, they are holed-up in an industrial building northeast of Paris, have one hostage and are telling police they want to die as martyrs.
WEATHER STATEMENT WARNS OF POOR DRIVING CONDITIONS
Expect a slower than normal commute to end the work week thanks to a dusting of overnight snow. Strong wind and a few centimeters of snow have prompted Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for Toronto and much of south central and southwestern Ontario. Toronto is expecting between 2 and 5 centimetres of snow, but areas closer to the Great Lakes could get 5 to 10 centimetres of accumulation. Driving conditions are expected to be challenging this morning. The weather agency says gusty winds will blow around the snow and occasionally reduce visibility to 1 kilometre or less in exposed areas. The cold front that is bringing the wind and snow is expected to be out of the region by late Friday morning.
The temperature is now expected to drop to -15 tonight so the City of Toronto has issued an Extreme Cold Weather Alert
AVERAGE GAS PRICE IN GTA BELOW 90 CENTS
Gas prices in Toronto dipped another penny overnight and for the first time since early 2009, the average price in the city is under 90 cents a litre at 89.9. In some spots around the GTA though, it’s even lower with a handful of stations on Bovaird in Brampton at 80.7. Last summer drivers in Toronto were paying $1.45.
LESLIE ROBERTS SUSPENDED FROM GLOBAL NEWS
Global News anchor Leslie Roberts was suspended Thursday amid allegations of conflict of interest from the Toronto Star. The Star reports that Roberts is part owner of a small public relations firm Buzz PR, and some clients have appeared on Global News programs. A Global spokeswoman says Roberts is suspended while they investigate the allegations. The statement from the network says they take “matters of journalistic integrity very seriously.” Roberts said he would resign from Buzz PR and told the newspaper none of his clients paid him to get television
HECKLER KICKED OUT OF BILL COSBY SHOW IN LONDON
While there was no disruption at Bill Cosby’s show in Kitchener Wednesday night but the comedian did face at least one heckler at his show in London on Thursday. Police were on hand outside Budwiser Gardens where protesters shouted “shame” at people walking into the venue. Ticketholders’ bags were searched and some were patted down as they entered. During the show one man shouted at Cosby “you are a rapist.” When the crowd booed the heckler, who was kicked out, Cosby told them not to acknowledge him. The comedian has been accused by several women of drugging and sexually assaulting them, he denies the allegations.
