News About News
One of the most trusted and venerated newsmen in the history of journalism will be stepping away from his desk.
Jon Stewart has announced that after 16 years he is leaving The Daily Show. He told the live audience at yesterday’s taping, and will most likely make a more formal announcement tonight.
You can’t underestimate the impact Stewart has had on late night talk, the nightly news, and journalism in general.
Scathing, contemptuous, but often compassionate, Stewart deconstructed both newsmakers and newsreaders.
He also launched the careers of Stephen Colbert and John Oliver, among others. The Daily Show will continue with a new host, yet to be named.
No date has been set yet for his departure. Comedy central would only say he’ll remain at the helm until later this year.
