Price hike possible amid potential Beer Store changes, Molson Canada CEO says
The owners of the Beer Store are warning that changes from the Ontario government could mean higher prices.
The CEO of Molson Coors made the statement on Tuesday.
It comes after a panel recommended the province charge the Beer Store a fee for it virtual monopoly.
The Beer Store is owned by Brewers Retail, a conglomerate of the 3 biggest beermanufactureres on the planet, Molson-Coors of the United States, AB InBev of Belgium and Sapporo of Japan and controls 80 per cent of beer sales in Ontario.
The Molson-Coors CEO described the retail outlet as a break-even co-op that enables the province to charge taxes that account for 44 per cent of the purchase price of beer.
