BOFFO BOX OFFICE/h3>
It was a big weekend in sports in entertainment, whether you’re a fan of boxing, horseracing, royal baby watching or …. AVENGING.
Financially, the Avengers: Age of Ultron scored the second biggest domestic opening in history, with a mammoth $187.7 million debut. Globally, the film is a juggernaut, pulling in an estimated $627 million in 12 days of release.
At this rate, it is expected to pass $1 billion, particularly after it opens in China on May 12 (because they have a lot of people there). The biggest film opening of all time? The original Avengers movie, which opened in 2012 to $207.4 That box office high-water mark will stand…at least until “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” lands in theaters next Christmas.
On that note, May the 4th be with you.
No coincidence that the cast of Star Wars is on the cover of Vanity Fair this month. Han Solo , Chewbacca, and new characters Rey and Finn, and adorable robot BB8, all photographed by Annie Liebowitz. Looking great – they must have Chewbacca on a senior pet diet – his coat has never looked shinier.
