PEEL HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS GO ON STRIKE
A strike has been confirmed for high school teachers in Peel region. Bargaining continued past the deadline of midnight but at around 12:40am a strike was confirmed after no deal was reached. The Peel district School board joins teachers in Durham and Sudbury on the picket lines. The board says schools will be closed because they can’t guarantee the safety of students. The Peel strike will affect about 42,000 students.
ONTARIO PARENTS TAKING KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL DUE TO SEX-ED CURRICULUM
Some parents will be keeping their kids home from school today as part of a province wide movement against the planned changes to the sex-ed curriculum. Protests continue in Mississauga on Sunday as hundreds of parents want the Wynne liberals to stop with their planned sex education material for the 2015 year. The organization; Parents & Students on Strike, in defiance against the planned legislation will be pulling their children out of school for one week. The parents are from 32 different boards and are will be pulling students from schools ranging from grades 1-8. The group says the material isn’t age-appropriate and that they should have been consulted before the changes were made.
TOWN HALL MEETING ON THE FUTURE OF GARDINER EXPRESSWAY
The city will be holding another meeting on the future of the Gardiner Expressway tonight. The meeting is the Gardiner East town hall meeting and residents are invited to attend and chime in on the future of the aging expressway. The town hall is a chance for the community to discuss how City Council should make this decision. Former City of Toronto chief planner Paul Bedford, waterfront design expert Ken Greenberg and world renowned architect Michael Kirkland will offer insight on how this decision will impact the downtown and the development of the waterfront. The event is being hosted by Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell and the West Don Lands Committee. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at St. Lawrence Hall on King Street.

GRACE LEE WHITNEY, YEOMAN RAND ON ORIGINAL STAR TREK DIES AT AGE 85
Actress Grace Lee Whitney, known best for he Star Trek role as Captain Kirk’s assistant has died at age 85. She played Yeoman Janice Rand at the start of the original series, then reprised the role in four of the Star Trek movies.
