Japanese Zoo Rethinks Naming Baby Monkey After Britain's Princess Charlotte
What seemed like a nice, but possibly misguided gesture has put a Japanese monkey park in some hot water after naming a newborn Macaque monkey Charlotte; causing floods of complaints saying it’s disrespectful to Britain’s Royal Family.
Mount Takasaki Wild Monkey Park asks the public every year to vote for the name of the first Macaque monkey born each year. The name Charlotte hadn’t received a single vote from the public until after the Princess’ name was revealed on Monday, which launched the name to the top of the list.
After all the complaints, the zoo is considering changing the monkey’s name.
