Kim Jong Un 'executed defence chief with anti-aircraft gun for sleeping during meeting'
There are reports out this morning suggesting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has executed his defence minister, who allegedly fell asleep during a meeting with the dictator and had not carried out instructions.
It was carried out in the most bizarre way, with the man killed by an anti-aircraft gun, in front of an audience. Yonhap news agency reports that MPs were told Defence Minister Mr. Hyon Yong-chol was executed on 30 April.
South Korea said a senior military officer was also killed, which follows the earlier reported execution of 15 senior officials. Among those executed were two vice-ministers who had challenged Kim Jong-un over his policies and members of an orchestra.
If true, it’s the latest in Kim Jong-un’s cull of the old guard in Pyongyang.
