Back in the day, the original Hollywood Vampires were Alice Cooper, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson and Keith Moon with Bernie Taupin and Mickey Dolenz usually in tow with nothing else on their mind than to get drunk and play at the Rainbow Bar and Grill on the Sunset Strip in 1972. Alice says simply “To join the club, one simply had to out-drink all of the members.”
Well in 2015 the line up has changed a bit and they no longer drink (well Aice doesn’t for sure) and there’s an album in the can that features, Alice, Johnny Depp, Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney, Slash, Perry Farrell, Robby Kreiger, Joe Perry, Joe Walsh and the late Christopher Lee.
Alice put the “Vampires” back in action with Johnny Depp joining the line up and then for the next couple of years various high profile rock stars came into Alice’s studio and recorded some of their favourite cover songs including tunes by The Doors, Zeppelin and The Who!
Bernie Taupin wrote the liner notes: ““I’m not completely sure what constituted bad behavior back then, but in this lair it existed in a bubble, a hermetically sealed dome of fun. It may not have been the round table at the Algonquin, but these were witty, intelligent guys who often got raucous and loud, but rest assured there were no bystanders or animals hurt in the making of the Hollywood Vampires.”
The album drops September 11th.
