Should You Kiss Your Children?
Should you kiss your children on the lips? It’s a question that came up on our news station the other day, and the phones went nuts. Everyone had strong feelings about the subject. A lot of the reactions were steeped in cultural traditions. We are not a particularly kissey society compared to, say, Europeans, and then there’s the child abuse subtext that seems to be lurking under every playmat. I think I used to kiss our boys on the lips. Not often, but sometimes. When they were babies, of course. I chewed on their toes, nibbled on their ears – it was all I could do not to eat them whole. That was a long time ago, of course. They are grown men now, mostly, and I don’t find them remotely edible.
