Don't Leave The Kids Home Alone
John and I are heading up to the cottage this weekend. Alone. No, no nudge nudge wink wink. The kids just don’t want to come with us. They are staying in the city, and I guess that’s ok. They’re 22 and 16, so I’m not worried that they will fall down the stairs, or electrocute themselves. Nor am I concerned that they will throw some massive Project X/Risky Business type party in our absence. First of all, they can have a party any time they want to; they don’t need us to leave town. Secondly, any time either one has even tried to do something they shouldn’t, our nosy neighbour narcs on them. Thirdly, they have seen other kids/young adults have unlawful gatherings that have resulted in damaged and stolen property, broken trust, and punishments that have lasted TO THIS DAY. I’m not kidding: a friend of mine grounded her two sons for 6 months after they had a party and her laptop was stolen, and she HELD THEM TO IT. I believed she also cancelled Christmas.
So they just want to hang out in the city for the weekend. Go to the movies, order pizza, leave their socks on the floor. What’s the worst that can happen?
Don’t answer that.
