OPP Looking For Distracted Drivers In Long Weekend Blitz
The OPP say they will be out on the roads this long weekend, looking for distracted drivers. Forty-one deaths have been attributed to distracted driving on OPP patrolled roads this year and police say the number of crashes caused by distracted drivers is up 20 per cent compared with this time last year. Officers will be enforcing new legislation that now carries a 490 dollar fine and three demerit points for distracted driving.

The final long weekend of the summer is upon us and you’ll want to keep in mind what’s open and closed ahead of the Labour day holiday.

Long-term care homes
Most tourist attractions will be open including the CN tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, Toronto Zoo, the ROM and AGO along with historical sites
Movie theatres and restaurants
The TTC is running on a holiday schedule and GO Transit is operating on a Saturday schedule.
PC Leader Patrick Brown Wins Byelection in Simcoe North
Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown has won a seat in the Ontario legislature following the Simcoe North byelection. The seat was previously held by longtime Progressive Conservative MPP Garfield Dunlop, who resigned this summer so Brown could run. Early results on Thursday showed Brown took more than 50 per cent of the vote, beating out Liberal candidate Fred Larsen, who lost to Dunlop in the previous two elections, and NDP candidate Elizabeth Van Houtte. Brown was elected PC Leader in May and resigned his federal seat in the Barrie riding.
