Did you hear about that phone call that Elton John reportedly had with Russian President Vladimir Putin? Where they supposedly discussed gay rights in Russia? Yes, Elton swears he spoke to Putin, and the Kremlin is saying “oh no he didn’t”. Turns out it was a prank. A pair of Russian comedians say they impersonated Putin and called Elton a day after he told journalists he’d like to have a conversation with the Russian leader, who has been a staunch opponent to LGBT equality. Vladimir Krasnov and Aleksei Stolyarov, are known in Russia for targeting celebrities with their audacious stunts, and are clearly more funny than a barrel of communism.
Speaking of not so funny, did you hear the one about the comedian who lied about being in the World Trade Center on Sept 11th? Steve Rannazzisi, a standup and actor best known for his role as Kevin on the FX TV show The League, has long maintained that he was in the South Tower when the north Tower collapsed, and that his decision to move to California with his wife was based on that experience. Now, 14 years later, and just days before Comedy Central was set to air a special, Rannazzisi has confessed to making it all up, and has apologized. That’s the last time he takes career advice from Brian Williams.
Before you judge this guy too harshly, there may be another place you can go to judge people harshly. NBC has ordered a live, unscripted spin-off of Law & Order that will allow viewers to weigh in on real cases. Civil cases, not criminal, but the audience will be allowed to determine verdicts through interactive voting. Kind of like The People’s Court meets American Idol. It will be called “You the Jury”. Who wouldn’t want their fate decided by some Cheeto munching couch potato in Peoria? What could possibly go wrong?
Today’s fun couple consists of a rock star and a model, a little long in the tooth but looking fine. Uptown girl Christie Brinkley is stepping out with John Mellencamp. She’s 61, he’s 63. He split not too long ago with Meg Ryan; she used to be married to Billy Joel. They were spotted leaving New York’s Bowery Hotel together, all smiley and stuff. Look like Mellencamp’s got his Cougar back.
