Kansas City Mayor Issues Challenge to Tory
As is customary in these sporting rivalries, Kansas City Mayor Sly James has issued a challenge to mayor John Tory and the City of Toronto. The mayor of Kansas City is calling out John Tory. Sly James is betting on the Royals to end the Blue Jays , putting up some BBQ food. Let’s just hope it’s not those hot dogs they serve inside Kauffman Stadium.
“Congratulations on making it this far Mayor Tory and the Toronto Blue Jays, but we have a wager for you,” he said. “We are going to not lose, so I’m really more interested in what you’re going to do for us. I will warn you in advance, we have our own maple syrup, so something else maybe.”
If the Blue Jays beat the Royals (which shouldn’t be too hard to do!), Tory will be awarded a fine selection of ribs and sauces from three of Kansas City’s best restaurants. Why ribs? Kansas City has been dubbed by some as the BBQ Capital of the World. John Tory has finally responded to the bet – watch below:
Jays Send Estrada to Mound For Game 1 of ALCS
The Blue Jays and Royals play game one of the ALCs tonight. This is the first time in 22 years that the Jays have made it to this point in the post season, the last time of course, when they won it back it 1993. These two teams don’t exactly like each other as there have been a couple of dust ups already this season, but the Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain is hoping it doesn’t get to that point again. Marco Estrada will hit the mound for the Jays tonight as the first pitch goes a little after 7pm eastern tonight.
Blue Jays-Rangers Game 5 7th Inning gets its own TV special
Meanwhile, with the Texas Rangers now in the rear view mirror, it’s crystal clear people are still talking about the 7th inning of game five. In fact, Fox Sports confirmed it will air an hour-long program recapping the inning, full of bizarre plays from game five. “The Unforgettable Inning” will air tonight at 6pm eastern on Fox.
Electricity Rates Set To Rise Nov. 1
The cost of electricity is set to rise again across the province. The Ontario energy board announced the increase today and will begin November 1. The increase will add about $5 more to the average household. The OEB says the peak price for electricity _ between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. _ will rise by 1.4 cents to 17.5 cents a kilowatt hour. The mid-peak price from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will rise by 0.6 cents to 12.8 cents a kw/h. And the off-peak rate from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and all day weekends and holidays jumps 0.3 cents to 8.3 cents a kwh, less than half the on-peak price. The energy board says about 40 per cent of the rate increase is because of increased costs from Ontario Power Generation’s nuclear and hydro-electric generating stations. The board sets electricity prices every May and December and changes the hours for peak and off-peak pricing to reflect the shorter daylight periods in winter.
