Famous band riders include Van Halen and the M&M’s (brown one’s)to be absent from the backstage area (which was put in there to see if the promoter actually READ the rider). But it’s the Rolling Stones backstage demands that take the cake (which is included in the rider) and so is flowers arranged in a specific way as well as “Two smartly dressed well groomed hostessess” to serve them at the band’s every turn and “wherever the band stays, illegal or not–the place better figure out a way to keep the booze flowing”. Even though the Stones have mellowed somewhat over the years their demands are relatively simple these days considering they travel with a 300-member organization whose ‘efficiency is reportedly the envy of the touring circuit. It’s Charlie Watts that gets the closing comment, “I don’t have a rider. I think they’re silly. I hate having people around me, except my wife and my daughter” Rock on Charlie!!
