Matt & Jessie were the winners of Q107′s Rock & Roll Adventure to see Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert!
The trip to NYC was amazing!
On Friday, we got in and checked into our hotel. It was very nice and centrally located! That night, we wandered around the area a bit. We visited the skating rink and the big tree at 30 Rock and we checked out the Christmas Market at Bryant Park. My wife found a nice little shop that sold vegan pies and I had some fancy mac n’ cheese. We also watched a light show on the side of a building nearby. Very festive!
The next day, we toured St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It really is a stunning piece of architecture. All of the displays were so inspiring and serene. After the Cathedral, we had lunch at Bill’s Burgers and Bar, where I got to try a hard root beer! It was pretty tasty! Later, we took a little walk over to Central Park. We took a leisurely stroll through the park, eventually making our way back downtown towards the concert venue. As a “Miracle on 34th Street”, I wanted to spend a little time at Macy’s department store, so we did a bit of shopping before the show.
The concert itself was a real blast. The lineup of world-class musicians on display was jaw-dropping. Everyone seemed invested in honoring Lennon on his 75th. One of the standout performance for me was Aloe Blacc’s rendition of “Steel and Glass”. I wasn’t familiar with Blacc before the show, but he has an amazing, powerful voice and we were both captivated. The whole show was a knockout!
On Sunday, we went back to Central Park to visit Strawberry Field (I missed it last time and wanted to make sure we paid our respects to Lennon), then we headed downtown to visit some vegan shops and a cider bar. Finally, we took the train to JFK for our flight home.
Overall it was a real treat to be able to take a weekend trip! We felt like a couple of jet-setters.
A million thanks to Q107 for this special holiday adventure!
