Other than teenagers I don’t know too many people who sleep more than the recommended eight hours. In fact most of the people I know have such busy lives and work schedules they’re lucky to get eight. Do you sleep longer than most?
Well according to new research it’s not good for you. It could actually be worse than not getting enough sleep.
The new study from the University of Sydney found regular oversleeping can have adverse health effects. In addition to the regular taboos of drinking too much, smoking, eating poorly, and too much sitting, researchers have found that sleeping more than nine hours a day can have some pretty scary side effects.
Over a six year period, regular oversleeping meant a 44 percent increased risk of death.
Surprisingly, sleeping less than seven hours a day meant a nine percent increased mortality risk. So, sleeping less is better than sleeping more.
