I feel so bad for this poor couple from the U.K… Edwina and David Nylan purchased a lottery ticket through a smartphone app.
I never knew you could do that. That makes lottery purchases a whole lot easier. But wait.
They purchased the ticket on December 23rd and were notified shortly after more funds needed to be added to their account. They added the funds and say the app confirmed the purchase.
According to lottery officials they do have a record of them adding funds prior to the 7:30pm deadline but did not register a completed transaction before the deadline. When a transaction has been successfully completed a confirmation screen appears and an email confirming the purchase is sent out. Edwina says she didn’t remember to check for confirmation because it was before Christmas and it was so busy.
The payment was eventually processed but not until midnight Dec 24th, well past the deadline.
They would have won 35.4 million pounds ($52 million dollars) had it gone through as planned.
So maybe the app isn’t such a great idea.
