Steven Tyler will release the second single from his upcoming country-tinged solo album on January 25th, according to Blabbermouth. The new track, called “Red White & You,” is being dubbed by Tyler’s record label, Dot Records, as an “American up-tempo country anthem.” The tune, which was written by Lindsey Lee and Eric Paslay, will be featured on Tyler’s solo debut set for sometime in the first quarter of this year, and follows the still-untitled album’s lead single, “Love In Your Name,” which topped the Billboard Country Streaming Songs chart.
Tyler shed light on his new career direction, telling ABC News: “I think country music is the new rock n’ roll. I mean, you can listen to the lyrics, you can really get into it, just as you could get into ‘Stairway To Heaven.’ Country’s not just about porches, dogs and kicking my boots up. It’s a whole lot more, but it’s about being real. You know, the world’s gone so far away from that. I hope it comes back.”
Back in 2011, we asked Steven Tyler why he finally decided to release a solo track after dedicating himself to band work for so long: “I just wanted to do something on my own that I didn’t have to filter anything through the band. I could be my own critic, y’know, I could be my own worst enemy on this. Just wanted to see what I could do, you know, with my own song. God knows Joe Perry did it enough times. It’s just fun.”
On New Year’s Eve (December 31st), Tyler jumped onstage with Alice Cooper‘s band at the annual Maui bash thrown by Alice’s manager, Shep Gordon, for a rousing rendition of Aerosmith‘s 2001 hit, “Jaded.”
Tyler has so far announced two solo shows for this spring. He’ll be backed by the Nashville-based band Loving Mary on March 29th and 31st at Niagara Falls, Ontario’s Fallsview Casino.
According to the press release issued by the venue, “Tyler will deliver a night to remember as he performs his multi-platinum singles and powerhouse hits such as ‘Dream On,’ ‘Janie’s Got A Gun,’ ‘Jaded,’ and (his recent solo country single) ‘Love Is Your Name.'”
