Kevin O’Leary Could Be a Favourite for Conservative Leadership
A new poll suggests celebrity businessman Kevin O’Leary could be a contender if he decides to enter the Conservative Party leadership race.
The poll by Mainstreet Research comes a week after the investor and television personality announced his interest in the leadership race.
Leading the poll was former MP and Minister of Justice Peter MacKay with 25 per cent support among Convervative voters, with O’Leary close behind at 23 per cent. Other party leader hopefuls polled far behind, including Jason Kenney at 8 per cent, Lisa Raitt at 4.4 per cent, Maxime Bernier with 4 per cent, and Kellie Leitch at 3 per cent.
The survey polled 1,777 Conservative voters on January 15, 2016
O’Leary, who has been called the Canadian Donald Trump, is no stranger to the spotlight having starred in Dragon’s Den and Shark Tank, as well as being a regular financial commentator.
Last week, he pledged to inject $1-million of his own money into Alberta’s oil sector if NDP premier Rachel Notley agreed to resign. O’Leary blames Notley’s policies for the collapse of the Canadian dollar and oil woes.
