Cheer Up! Blue Monday is B.S.
Feeling a little sad and depressed today because it’s Blue Monday? Many are feeling the sting as Christmas bills start coming in, resolutions have been broken, it’s cold out and there’s not much sunshine.
Well, stop feeling sad, because it is NOT the most depressing day of the year!
For the last few years, media outlets have reported on the third Monday of January being “Blue Monday” and the saddest day of the year based on science.
The “science” in this case comes from Dr. Cliff Arnall, a former part-time tutor at Cardiff University who left the institution in the mid-2000′s, who claimed to have connected weather to various factors to come to a sound conclusion on the matter.
His study, which scientists have torn to shreds, was used by now dead holiday company Sky Travel, to promote their business.
Back in 2005, holiday travel company Sky Travel coined the term using an equation which took into account factors such as debt levels and weather conditions.
For those that do find today to be tough, wellness experts advise some light exercise, wearing bright clothing, taking on a positive attitude and light therapy.
Arnall also published “research” on the happiest day of the year not too long ago, but this study came out while he was working for an ice cream company!
