Justin Trudeau Tells Leo DiCaprio To Cool It On Climate Change
According to a senior Liberal official and the Prime Minister himseld, Justin Trudeau told off Leonardo DiCaprio at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
At a dinner following DiCaprio’s anti-Big Oil speech at the conference in Switzerland, Trudeau claims he confronted the celebrity, informing him that his comments were causing more harm than good.
Trudeau told reporters Friday that, “I pointed out that both Alberta and Canada have new governments over the past year that are committed to action on climate change, committed to engaging with the emissions causing climate change in a responsible way. There are families suffering and out of work who need to be supported, and inflamed rhetoric doesn’t necessarily help either the families–or help Canada–achieve its significant carbon reduction targets.”
The senior staffer said told the Ottawa Citizen that DiCaprio accepted the PM’s message. Trudeau said the conversation ended well.
“He actually said that if we really took concrete action on climate change, he’d be the first to come up and celebrate us for it.”
Only time will tell if these “new governments” Trudeau speaks of will actually accomplish anything.
