You can call it whatever you want, but I will wager not too many little girls will want the new Curvy Barbie. You can’t fault Mattel for trying, but idealized body images are so deeply ingrained that I don’t see any little girl (or boy) actually wanting one. Even buying a Curvy Barbie for your child, be she of a sturdy build or not, is making a prediction about her that she will probably not want to know: that she too will be curvy, meaning not the ideal.
Tall Barbie is desirable, tiny Barbie just as much. The so-called classic Barbie, however, truly is a freak of nature. If she were real, she would be 5’9″, with a 39″ bust, and 18″ waist, 33″ hips. a size 3 foot. She would weigh 110 pounds, and have a BMI of 16.24. None of these dolls reflect real life women. Stop pretending that they do.
