Bring Uber On Par With Taxi Industry: Poll
As much as cab drivers don’t like competing with Uber, the ride-share service is here to stay.
But the drivers are getting some sympathy from Canadians.
An Angus Reid poll has found although most don’t support banning Uber outright, 63% would like to see the service regulated like the taxi industry.
Almost three-quarters of Canadians are open to Uber operating in their city.
In Toronto, cab drivers have long complained Uber is operating illegally in the city, in addition to cutting into their ability to make a living.
The poll comes after Toronto’s cabbies called off planned job action for Friday, just as NBA All-Star Weekend festivities were kicking off.
A similar strike crippled the downtown core last December.
