Justin Trudeau attended the panda name unveiling and it got us thinking. While people got to vote on the names for adorable twin pandas, Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue (Canadian Hope and Canadian Joy), not all animals names come from such a democratic process.
Here are some of the strangest, funniest and most unique animal names at the Zoo. (But first a picture of JT snuggling twin babies JP and JY. Just because life is beautiful and Canada has panda babies.)
And now, the list. Apparently zookeepers have a love/hate relationship with geese…
Puff Daddy and Doug
Two male Sable Antelopes are graced with very different names. Evidently one of them is hardcore into rap, while the other one is just a regular guy.
Loud and Annoying
These geese get no respect. They like to honk constantly to voice their displeasure, and they were passive-aggressively shamed for it by the powers that be.
This white-faced Saki monkey has a spicy personality and name to match. I’m guessing. I’ve never met Teriyaki personally but I hear he’s a cool dude.
Mary-Kate and Ashley
These Golden Lion Tamarin females are petite bohemians with a flair for the dramatic. Or not, but they do have golden hair like the former Full House twin actresses.
Betty and Veronica
These chameleon pals are what you could call “frenemies.” They pretend to like each other, but secretly both want a certain redhead. Unfortunately he can’t find either of them.
Tigger and Woozle
These two hyenas have a complicated relationship. Tigger is a very happy and energetic kinda guy. To his frustration Woozle is never around, no matter how much Tigger looks for him. He’s beginning to wonder if Woozle exists at all.
Chris, Dave, Mom, Shirley, Tasha, Jim, Erika, Liz, Kaya, and Unnamed
This one bison isn’t as special as all NINE named bison in his Zoo. They’re all one big happy bison family…and then there’s that other one. Whoever he is. No one really cares.
