Most of us have forgotten much of what we ever learned in school, and I’m talking elementary school. A survey done by British newspaper The Guardian determined that around 30% of adults have forgotten basic principles in English, Math and Sciences. Test yourself to see where you stand, and God help you if you’re a teacher, a doctor or an engineer.
MATH: Can you calculate a median? a mode? A mean? The area of a circle? 30% can’t. Can you do long division? Multiplication? Work out a square root? 25% can’t.
ENGLISH: Do you know when to use a semi-colon? Are you confident in your ability to use an apostrophe? About 20% do not.
SCIENCE: Can you explain mitosis? Recall groups in the periodic table? Explain the water cycle? 30% said no, sir.
More than a third could not say what an oxymoron was, and just as many said they felt like one.
