Fresh off International Women’s Day, Prime Minster Trudeau has decreed that there will be a Canadian woman on the next series of Canadian bills. He didn’t say which denomination, nor which man will be getting the boot. So far we have Wilf Laurier on the fin, John A McD on the sawbuck, the Queen on the twenty (hey, SHE’s a woman), and Bob Borden on the hun. According to the announcement:
The nominees can be any Canadian woman, either by birth or naturalization, who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, achievement or distinction in any field. The nominees cannot be a fictional character and must have died prior to April 15, 1991.
Well that narrows it down a bit. That leaves artist Emily Carr, suffragette Nellie McLung, author Lucy Maud Montgomery, Mohawk poet Pauline Johnson, and your Aunt Fanny. Any other suggestions?
