Tom Jones’s long suffering wife Melinda died on Sunday. It was actually a relatively brief bout with cancer that killed her, but one would imagine she suffered greatly throughout their 59 years of marriage. Only 8 years old when they met in a small Welsh mining town, they were married at 16 when she became pregnant. This fact was hidden when Jones’s star begin to rise. His management thought it best to market him as a single Welsh coal miner, rather than the married father he actually was, and he went along with it, enthusiastically. Jones had many high profile affairs, and at last one other child out of wedlock. It’s said that he was with as many as 250 women a year, but always went back to Melinda, and she always took him back. Touching? Maybe. Here’s the question: would you rather be with someone who would always hold your interest, even if he/she were unfaithful, or spend a lifetime with someone who bored you? Sounds like Tom and Linda Jones each made one of those decisions.
