Netflix Blocks Canadians Using VPNs to Access American Content
Thousands and thousands of sneaky Canadians are going to be a little upset when they pop open their Netflix and see “Access Denied” instead of the U.S. Netflix library they’ve had access to by using a virtual private network (VPN).
Unfortunately, the Canadian Netflix has substantially fewer licences to titles compared to the American version. This licencing issue had caused many Canadians to use a VPN to access the “better content,” as most users would put it.
In January, a Netflix blogpost announced that it would begin utilizing new high-tech methods to prevent VPNs from sidestepping the “geo-blocking” of its programming.
It seems that blog post WAS really preparing us for what’s happening now…
Unblock-Us.com, one of the bigger pay VPN services, appears to have had its U.S. Netflix access removed.
Their Twitter account has several tweets like: “If you would like a refund, please let support know and they can help,” or “Sorry, we are a few days behind, but we are working as fast as we can around the clock.”

Furthermore, posts on the Reddit board ‘NetFlixByProxy,’ show that many people using VPNs are receiving the notice “Proxy Detected — Access to America Denied”
Others posters on the board are warning users to not mention that they use a VPN or that there’s still works. The fear is that many believe Netflix is monitoring for those comments and will target those accounts.
In short, you better watch what you haven’t, quickly, before you lose access to the good U.S. Netflix content.
The end of binge watching weekends are near… guess it’s time to get a life.
