The Fort McMurray fires are giving us all pause to think: it’s amazing that there have not been any casualties … how awful to lose your home … what about the pets … where will everyone go now. Fear of fire has been a longtime terror of mine. When I was little, I kept a small suitcase (my mother’s old sewing kit, actually) packed with things I would want to take with me in case of a fire: Barbies, Bobbsey Twins books, my little white Bible. You know, all the B-stuff. Now, when I think about it, if I had to evacuate in a hurry, I can’t think of any material thing that would be worth the risk. Grab the kids and the dogs and skedaddle. Everything else is replaceable. What about you? What would YOU save in a fire?
