After the fiasco that was the pre-sales for The Tragically Hip’s final tour, Ontario’s attorney general says she’s prepared to try and find out why so many Tragically Hip fans couldn’t buy tickets for their summer concerts – unless they wanted to pay many times face value on resale sites.
Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur says she sympathizes with fans who would have to pay such tremendous prices to see the band. She says the ministry needs to look at what is happening now with the resale prices and insists she wants to fix the situation.
Yesterday I had a ton of people calling in with solutions. A number of people felt it could be fixed if people purchased concert and sporting event tickets much like airline tickets, where you have to register your name with your ticket in order to purchase and redeem.
Would that really work though? Would you be ok with not being able to refund or resell your tickets, period? Sometimes these events go on sale a year in advance how will you know whether or not something will come up that would prevent you from going?
