News reports out this morning indicate Porter Airlines is in preliminary talks to offer flights to Muskoka beginning next summer.
The idea is to boost tourism in cottage country by bringing visitors from the U.S. and even Europe by offering Canadian wilderness vacations. There is also the possibility some Torontonians will take advantage of flights to beat cottage country traffic and fly there in 30 minutes.
This is in the very early stages. A study needs to be done to see if this is even feasible with Muskoka’s current tiny airport and whether or not the demand would be there. The plan would involve two weekly round-trip flights between Toronto and Muskoka on Thursdays and Sundays on 70-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprops.
