Anton Yelchin, best known for playing Pavel Chekov in the latest Star Trek films, was killed in a car accident early Sunday at the age of 27.
The actor was struck by his own car as it rolled backwards down his driveway in Studio City, California. Yelchin got pinned by his car against a brick mailbox pillar and security fence, according to Los Angeles police. He had gotten out of his car momentarily, but police didn’t say why he was behind it when the car started rolling. Friends found him dead at his home after he failed to show up for a rehearsal.
Yelchin started out as a child actor in independent films before breaking out in the movies “Alpha Dog” and “Charlie Bartlett” in the mid-2000s. The third installment in the new Star Trek films titled “Star Trek Beyond” featuring Anton Yelchin as Chekov hits theatres next month.
Below are some clips of Yelchin playing Chekov in the Star Trek movies.
