I was at a funeral the other day. Well, not so much a funeral as a life celebration, for a the mother of a friend who had passed away at the age of 86. Fran had been in a home for several years, suffering from Alzheimer’s, but in her prime she was, in the the lingo of the day, a helluva gal. Her family put together a little shrine of sorts at the party: a collection of photos, with an arrangement of items that were part of her everyday life. They included a tennis racquet, a pack of cigarettes, a tumbler full of Crown Royal, a tube of bright red lipstick and a bridge hand. It captured her to a T. It made me wonder what I would have on my own shrine: a cookbook, a bottle of wine, a microphone? Another bottle of wine? What about you? What would YOU have?
