Classic rock legends Journey returned to the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre for another amazing show, this time bringing The Doobie Brothers along for the ride. Touring in the past with acts like Heart and Cheap Trick, The Doobie Brothers complimented the band well, pumping up the crowd with hits like “China Grove” and “Listen to the Music.”
The Doobie Brothers
Starting their set off strong, Journey took the stage with “Separate Ways”, then played a few more hits before Neal Schon, the only original and constant member of Journey still touring with the band, played a rock n roll cover of the Canadian Anthem that got everybody on their feet, where they remained for the rest of the show.
Lead singer Arnel Pineda kept the crowd energized as he ran around the stage, jumping off of speakers and pointing the mic out to the audience during some of the bands most popular choruses. Discovered by Neal Schon himself, Pineda has been a great asset to the group since 2007 both in his vocal ability as well as his contagious personality on stage.
As can be imagined it was a great night full of great music and great energy. Everyone tried to hit the high notes in “Don’t Stop Believin'”, even though many just couldn’t make it there, but that really didn’t matter. The fun of singing one of your favourite hits at the top of your lungs, with a packed house and the band themselves behind you is what will be remembered, not whether you managed to reach perfect pitch, and that, in essence, is the magic of Journey.
